Adventure & Expo

Club of the Year Award 2015

We are lucky in Plymouth to have Dartmoor on our doorstep for some pretty wild adventures. Further afield we run trips to the Brecons, Snowdonia and the Peak District, we have everything from gentle coast path strolls to full blown mountain expeditions.

We offer opportunities for both indoor and outdoor climbing, from beginner levels to experienced. The Life Centre in Plymouth offers over 150 routes on 16m, 10m and 8m walls, for top rope and lead climbs, along with a large dedicated bouldering area. For outdoor climbing the club runs trips to many locations in the South West and further afield, including the spectacular Cheddar Gorge and of course local Dartmoor. Even if you have never tried climbing and would love to give it a go, or are experienced and would like to be challenged, there is something for everyone in the club.

Slacklining is the newest sport to come to Adventure & Expo. It’s a cross between a tightrope and a trampoline, and totally addictive. Give it a go, you won’t regret it. The perfect way to unwind after a climbing/caving session or go water-lining walking across a slackline over a body of water – be prepared to get wet though! Brilliant for good balance, coordination and training your core.

There’s an eager, contingent of cavers in Adventure & Expo. They travel the country, and the world, finding the best caves. If you’re looking for a bit of adventure in your life, and you don’t mind a bit of mud, caving is for you. Conquer your fears and explore where few people venture. We regularly run trips to Devon caves, including Bakers Pit, Pridhamsleigh Cavern and Radford. Further afield we have strong ties to the Mendip Caving Group: Shepton Mallet Caving Club, Plymouth Caving Group and Devon Cave Rescue Organisation.

Committee 2018-2019

Izzy Martin

Joining A&E has been the best decision of my time at uni and I really enjoy giving back to the club. I want as many members as possible to learn the skills they need to get out and enjoy the outdoors. If you have any questions or suggestions about the club feel free to message me!

Georghia Binstead

I will send out and respond to emails and generally help support all my other committee members. Feel free to ask me anything and I’ll find out the answer for you. I love caving and climbing and am always willing to go on adventures. I’m most looking forward to the evening socials, especially on the trips as they always end in laughter!

Finlay McKinnon

I make sure our funds go a long way and are spent well. What I love about Adventure & Expo is the great community spirit that surrounds everyone, I only joined the club back in September last year and was welcomed as part of the society with open arms. I’ve made so many friends, learned skills and shared adventures with great people. I urge everyone to keep trying new things, climbing higher, going deeper and pushing themselves to new limits.

Brendan Cavaciuti

Health & Safety Officer

I am the barrier between you and danger. I’m here to make sure that everyone stays saft on and off the crag with the help of Safty Pasty. I’ll also make sure we are as we as safe for the environment as we can be. I make sure everyone on the trips is insured and able to do what they are planning to do. I’m happy to answer any questions or concerns about anything in the club!

Connagh Launchbury

Climbing Sec

I’m excited to introduce people to rock climbing, especially lead climbing. Come to me for tips and advice whether it’s how to do a route or how to get outside on real rock. I’m a qualified climbing instructor and you’ll be in safe hands.

Sabrina Brooke

Caving Sec

I love getting down underground and muddy! I have been caving for several years and am keen to introduce or widen any experience. Caving is all about getting in or out of tight spots and exploring the hidden wonders of waterfalls, crystals and rock formations.

Daniel Fuller

Hillwalking Sec

It’s my job to organise walks, hikes and scrambles for the club over the next academic year. If you want to get out of Plymouth and explore or have an idea for places that we can go to, I’m the guy to talk to! If you do have an idea, please get in touch with me.

Helen Astle

Trip Sec

This means I’m in charge of organising the trips that we all go on – making sure we have a place to stay, transport to get there, and know roughly what we’re doing when we’re on the trip. You’ll see me pretty regularly at the Hangar or Life Centre – come and say hi! Any suggestions for trips or questions about anything, shoot me a message and I’ll happily listen!

Brendan Miller

Kit Sec

I am a second-year robotics student and the kit sec for this year. I will look after all of the club’s kit and help to ensure that it is safe for everyone to use. I also design the club kit for the year. If you want to borrow any of the club kit to use, don’t hesitate to ask!

Alex Moore

Social Sec

After 2 years of going to A&E socials, it’s now my turn to run them! I’m hoping to run a good mixture of socials this year with a few new ideas as well as the classics. I shall be at the club trips bringing the evening games and peach schnapps!
